Uncovering the Veil

There is some historical significance in wearing a veil. It dates to ancient Greek and Roman times. Brides would be wrapped from head to toe, displaying modesty. It was also said that the veils would hide the brides from evil spirits that would ruin their happiness. The veils have held different meanings for different religions: regarding purity, reverence, etc.

In modern days, the veil serves to hide the bride’s face from the groom. Some choose to wear a blusher, which is a shorter version. It is easier to pull back from the bride’s face. Veils can be difficult to manage as it is, between wind and other elements. Although you can have someone try and manage it, some brides don’t want the bother.

Veils come in many styles, so you can choose which one works best for you. Some of the most common you may have seen are a blusher, cathedral length veil, chapel length veil, or dupatta (traditionally worn by Indian women).

It can save you money by not having one, or you can opt to do a Do-It-Yourself veil. Just grab some tulle and a hair clip. Some professionally made ones can be a little pricey. This will probably be the only time you use the veil, so some brides don’t want to splurge too much.

If a veil really isn’t for you, you can still make a statement with your hairdo. Maybe there is a style that you wanted to do but couldn’t with your potential veil. Headbands, crowns, and clips are also available options for you. Flower crowns, tiaras, and hair vines are some other ideas, too. It all depends on the theme of your look.

Make sure you have made a final decision on your attire first, to see if a veil is going to really go or not. You should also try it on, no matter what you are leaning towards. You might feel differently once you actually put it on.

If there is something like a family heirloom, that might be a good idea to incorporate if your family is asking you to. At the end of the day, it’s truly whatever you think is best for you.
