How to Create the Perfect event Hashtag

 A hashtag can combine individual posts with all other posts that contain the same hashtag. This gives it greater exposure and longevity. You can use the same hashtag across all social media channels like Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. It helps to better track and create a branded hashtag.

There are hashtag rules to follow: Choose your hashtag name wisely, promote your hashtag consistently, use your event hashtag before, during, and after, encourage and incentivize hashtag use, post hashtags contextually, and track your hashtag closely.

 

1. Choose Your Hashtag Name Wisely

Make sure that your hashtag is relevant. It should be related to your event and connected to your brand. Use the event name, topic of the event, or an abbreviation that’s easy to remember. This should be something unique that isn’t currently in circulation. You can quickly search it on all of the platforms. Hashtags are not case sensitive, but capitalizing each world will make them easier to read.

 

2. Promote Your Hashtag Consistently

Consistently promote your hashtag so everyone can see it and use it. This could be on event signage, posters, presentations, websites, social channels, event-related emails, and even your email signature. Of course include it in every event-related social post as well.

 

3. Leverage Your Event Hashtag Before, During, and After

Start generating some buzz way before the festivities. Continue to use it during, and after the party ends. Sometimes you might not get photos until way after when they are edited, so make sure you still incorporate it into those as well.

 

4. Encourage Hashtag Use

Make sure your guests know to use your hashtag (which can be done through posting it around your event). You can also have verbal conversations or encourage people to use it themselves within your post.

 

5. Use Hashtags Contextually

Most of the time hashtags are added at the end of the caption, with all the other hashtags. You can also try using them within the context. It is more efficient, uses fewer characters, allows for additional content, and makes the hashtag an actual part of the conversation.

 

6. Track Your Hashtag Closely

Keep checking on your hashtag to see all the posts that fall under it. This way you can quickly reply back to anyone who posted your event and thank them for coming. Some people might create their own hashtag for your event, so keep an eye on that as well.

 

Examples

It could be as simple as using the couple’s last name and wedding year. For instance, if the new last name is Smith, it could be #Smith2022. Usually, couples will come up with something a little more unique. So if someone has the name Morgan it could be #MorganHeBargainedFor. If they have the last name Holton, it would look something like #ToHaveAndToHolton. You can do something with the couple’s first name or their new last name. Just write down and brain storm a list of all things that come to mind when looking at those words. You got this!
