Things to Avoid at the Wedding Ceremony
Everyone hopes for a wedding ceremony that is smooth sailing. Hiccups can happen, but you can try and avoid them by being more prepared.
Not Rehearsing the Ceremony At Least Once
If the officiant doesn’t rehearse the ceremony beforehand, they can run into some issues. Certain situations can arise such as the officiant saying names or information incorrectly. Make sure that the bride and groom go over it a few times with the officiant.
Not Encouraging Guests to Find Their Seats
You want to be able to start your wedding ceremony on time. It is important to have everyone find their seats in a timely manner.
Not Asking the Audience to Turn Off Their Cell Phones
It’s important to remind guests to turn off their cellphones during the ceremony. Your officiant should announce for them to silence the phones so there are no interruptions. A sign could also be displayed in the entryway that asks for phones to be silenced.
Not Preparing the Rings Ahead of Time
It is common for people to forget rings for the ceremony. They should be checked prior and shined for the ceremony. Make sure packaging and prices are removed and that it is ready to go.
Not Moving Out of the Way for the First Married Kiss
You should request that your officiant steps to the side immediately after they say, “you may now kiss your bride.” This a very intimate moment and the couple needs to take center stage. Make sure that the officiant is out of the way for this part.
Not Focusing the Ceremony on the Couple
Guests should feel like they learned about the couple throughout the ceremony. Couple should speak to the officiant frequently so they can understand the relationship. Friends and family should feel like they are truly a part of something special.
Making the Ceremony too Lecture-Based
This is not the time for the officiant to teach everyone the meaning of marriage. Instead they should be a voice for the hope and wishes that the couple has.
Not Doing a Mic Check
A mic check should be done before the ceremony starts. Make sure the crowd can hear everything being said. Decide what the placement of the mic should be as well.
Not Looking at Each Other
Couples should focus their attention on each other, and not just stare at the officiant the whole time. It should be easy to look into each other’s eyes and not have any awkwardness. Know that you are both doing this together and let go of those jitters!
